Biometric Authentication Questions

What is biometric sign-on?

Biometric sign-on lets you sign on to our app using your unique facial features or fingerprint instead of entering your username and password.

How do I register a biometric image on my device?

First, go to your device settings. On your iOS device, select Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode. On your Android device, select Face & Fingerprint Unlock. From there, follow the steps to register your biometric image.

How do I turn on this feature?

  1. Go to your device settings and register your biometric image.
  2. Open our app and tap Set up Face ID® or Set up Touch ID® on your iOS device. Tap Set up biometrics on your Android device.
  3. Enter your username and password and tap Sign on. You’ll be directed to a screen where you can turn on this feature.

How do I use this feature once I’ve turned it on?

After launching our app, you'll be prompted to scan your face or fingerprint to sign on. If you don't get prompted, trigger this feature by tapping the biometric icon.

Should I use this feature if I share my device with someone?

No. When this feature is turned on, any person with a biometric image registered on your device can sign into your account.

What should I do if I lose my device or my device is stolen?

In addition to notifying your mobile carrier, call us immediately at 1-800-956-4442 to report that your device is lost or stolen. We can turn off your biometric sign-on feature.

Does Wells Fargo store my biometric image or have access to it?

No. Your device stores the information it needs to recognize you. Our app is only utilizing your device’s functionality to recognize your biometric image.

We do not store or have access to your biometric image.

Can I still use my username and password to sign on?

Yes. You can sign on with your username and password at any time.

How do I turn off this feature?

After signing on to our app, go to the main menu and tap Sign On with Face ID or Sign On with Touch ID on an iOS device. On your Android device, tap Biometric Sign-On. From there, follow the instructions to turn off this feature.

Why is biometric sign-on not working?

Biometric sign-on may be turned off after an operating system update or a Wells Fargo Mobile® app update. In some cases, we may turn off the feature for your security and ask you to sign on manually. However, you can always turn on this feature again after you’ve signed on with your username and password.

Important Information and Footnotes

Only select devices are eligible to enable sign-on with facial recognition. If you have an identical twin, we recommend that you use username and password instead of facial recognition to sign on. Your mobile carrier’s message and data rates may apply.

Certain devices are eligible to enable fingerprint sign-on. If you store multiple fingerprints on your device, including those of additional persons, those persons will also be able to access your Wells Fargo Mobile® app via fingerprint when fingerprint is enabled. Your mobile carrier's message and data rates may apply.
