With your Wells Fargo Debit Card, you can access money from the primary linked checking account by using it to make purchases. You can also get cash, transfer funds, make deposits and more at Wells Fargo ATMs.
Types of Debit Cards
- Debit Card. Customers with an eligible Wells Fargo checking account can make everyday purchases using their debit card at participating retailers and service providers – including online or by phone. Pay with confidence knowing your Wells Fargo Debit Card comes with many protection features and is a safer way to pay than cash.

Chip technology
Wells Fargo Debit Cards include chip technology on the front of the card, plus the traditional magnetic stripe on the back. The chip provides added security because it is extremely difficult to counterfeit or copy when used at a chip-enabled terminal or ATM, and does not store any personal information. Many countries worldwide have adopted chip technology, and it will become the standard for card payments in the U.S. If a merchant or ATM has not yet adopted chip technology, your transaction will be processed using the magnetic stripe on the back as it is today.
Contactless feature
Starting mid-2019, Wells Fargo will begin to offer consumer debit cards with contactless technology, which helps provide a speedy and secure purchase and checkout experience. A contactless card is a chip card with near field communication (NFC) technology, which enables close-range payments. When you tap or hold your card near the Contactless Symbol on a merchant terminal, you can securely make a payment. Contactless cards also come with a chip and magnetic stripe, so you can insert your card or use the magnetic stripe if a terminal is not yet contactless- (or chip-) enabled.
