Overdraft Protection

Protecting your checking account

With Overdraft Protection, you can protect yourself from the inconvenience of declined transactions or returned (bounced) checks. Sign up for Overdraft Protection and link your Wells Fargo credit card to your Wells Fargo personal checking account. Then, if you happen to spend more than you have in your checking account, your available credit will be used to authorize the transaction.

We’ll advance a minimum of $25 to cover your negative balance. If your available cash advance credit limit is less than $25, we'll advance the available credit. Overdraft Protection advances accrue interest from the date of each advance at the Cash Advance APR.

Setting up Overdraft Protection

Set up Overdraft Protection by signing on to the Wells Fargo Credit Card Service Center and selecting Overdraft Protection, calling a Phone Banker at 1-800-869-3557, or talking to a Banker at any Wells Fargo banking location.

If you link a credit card, you may need to confirm it first. If it isn’t confirmed, you might not be able to use it for Overdraft Protection. It can take up to 3 business days for Overdraft Protection to start working once your credit card is confirmed. Take a moment to check your Overdraft Protection settings to make sure everything looks right.

Important Information and Footnotes

Subject to account eligibility requirements. If you choose to link your account to your Wells Fargo checking account for Overdraft Protection, please note the following. If you have a joint checking account, you will be responsible for all advances, including interest and charges, from your credit card to cover overdrafts, regardless of who writes the check, makes the debit card purchase, or engages in any other transaction that causes the overdraft. Interest will accrue from the date each advance is made. Your credit card must be confirmed; if it is not confirmed, no money will transfer to cover the overdraft. Once your credit card has been confirmed, please allow up to 3 business days for your Overdraft Protection service to be fully enabled. Refer to the Consumer Credit Card Customer Agreement and Disclosure Statement for details. There may be other options available to protect against overdraft that may be less costly.
