To support charitable and/or educational purposes, specifically to encourage basic research and development of new concepts and technology related to the prevention of blindness and the cure of diseases of the human eye, as well as research and help for intellectual and developmental disabilities, with emphasis toward helping and advancing such research.

Grant Guidelines
Requirements
- To be eligible, organizations must qualify as exempt organizations under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
- Applications must be submitted through the online grant application form or alternative accessible application designed for assistive technology users.
Average giving
Average total giving per year: $250,000
Annual application period and deadlines
Applications are accepted year-round. Applications must be submitted by September 1 to be reviewed at the annual grant meeting that occurs in October.
Communications
Applicants will receive an automated email confirming their submission. Grant decisions are generally communicated by November for applications received by the deadline.
Required agreements and reports
Periodic progress reports and final reports may be required for funded projects.
About the Foundation
Foundation Information
The Manning Foundation was created by William O. Manning of Harris County, TX in 1992. The Foundation encourages basic research and development of new concepts and technology related to the prevention of blindness and the cure of diseases of the human eye, as well as research and help for intellectual and developmental disabilities, with emphasis toward helping and advancing such research.Mr. Manning started as a clerk with Humble Oil and spent his entire career with this company (and its successors). He married Nannie Brooks “Nancy” Stafford Manning on June 10th, 1944. She predeceased him in 1991. He died on June 17, 1992.
