Private Student Loan Payment Options

Important update

Changes are coming to the servicing of your student loan. Have you received notice that your loan is now being serviced by Firstmark Services, a division of Nelnet? Visit Firstmark Services or call 1-833-531-1307 for your new payment instructions and customer service.

Managing your student loan(s) responsibly may help assist your future financial goals. You have various options for making your student loan payments, including automatic payments, paying online, by phone or mail, or at a Wells Fargo banking location.

Online transfers and payments

You can make a payment by transferring funds from a Wells Fargo deposit account or a non-Wells Fargo account through Wells Fargo Online®.

Sign On to Wells Fargo Online®, select your student loan account then Make a Payment.

It could take 1 – 2 business days for this payment to reflect on your account. Payments received by Midnight Pacific Time online will be effective as of the date of receipt. If received after Midnight Pacific Time they will be effective the following day.

Bill Pay

If you have an eligible Wells Fargo account, you can receive and pay your bill online with Wells Fargo Bill Pay. You will receive an email notification when the bill is due and a payment confirmation the day after the payment is sent. It is a fast and easy way to pay your bill. Sign On to Wells Fargo Online to access Bill Pay.

You can also make a payment through another institution’s bill pay service. Log into their website and ensure your account number and Wells Fargo payment address are correct to prevent any delays or errors with your payment being processed on time.

Mail, phone, or in person

You can mail, call us, or go to a Wells Fargo banking location to make a payment.

When mailing a check, write your 10-digit student loan account number on the front of your check and include your payment coupon if available. We cannot process payment instructions written on a check or payment coupon.

To find your 10-digit student loan account number, see the upper right-hand corner of your student loan statement or call us at 1-800-658-3567.

Payments received by 5:00 p.m. Central Time at the payment address above will be effective as of the date of receipt. If received after 5:00 p.m. Central Time they will be effective the following day.

Make a payment by phone:

To make a payment over the phone you can call us at 1-800-658-3567.

Have your 10-digit student loan account number as well as your checking account information available. You will need your checking account number and routing number, which you can find on the bottom of your checks.

Payments received by Midnight Central Time over the phone will be effective as of the date of receipt.

Make a payment in person:

If it’s more convenient, you can also bring your payment to any Wells Fargo banking location.

Payments received at a Wells Fargo banking location prior to close of business at that location will be effective as of the date of receipt.

Automatic payment

Once you have left school and are receiving monthly billing statements, automatic payments might be a helpful way to ensure you never miss a payment.

With automatic payments, payments are automatically deducted from your bank account each month and you may qualify for a 0.25% interest rate discount. This discount reduces the amount of interest you pay over the life of the loan. The automatic payment discount may not change your monthly payment amount depending on the type of loan you receive, but may reduce the number of payments or reduce the amount of your final payment. Contact us at 1-800-658-3567 to see if your loan is eligible to receive an interest rate discount.

Whether or not you have a deposit account with Wells Fargo, you can Sign On to Wells Fargo Online to set up automatic payments.

New student loan customers

Your student loan(s) will appear in Wells Fargo Online banking usually within 2 to 3 business days after the initial disbursement.
