Wells Fargo donates $10,000 to non-profit Village Theatre to support youth programs in Issaquah and Everett
ISSAQUAH — June 2, 1999
To give or not to give is not the question.
Wells Fargo has given $10,000 to support Village Theatre's KIDSTAGE Theatre Arts Education Program in Issaquah and also its expansion into Everett. Now in its 12th year, KIDSTAGE provides both free and low cost programs to youths age five through 21. The program includes theatrical productions, classes, camps and internships.
Studies reveal that youth receiving arts training develop skills necessary for learning science, math and reading.
"Our classes help students develop cooperation and leadership skills, confidence and self-esteem, which carry over into other aspects of everyday life," said Robb Hunt, executive producer for Village Theatre." Last year, 541 students participated in the KIDSTAGE program.
For 20 years Village Theatre has brought mainstage productions to Issaquah, providing the community with its first professional theatre company. Last August, Village Theatre announced its agreement with the City of Everett to become Resident Performing and Management Company of the Everett Performing Arts Center.
The KIDSTAGE program in Everett broke ground in January of this year. The classes and camps take place at the Everett Performing Arts Center, located at 2710 Wetmore Ave. and are expected to reach more than 550 youngsters this year. For more information call (425) 257-6371.
"This well structured program makes theatre education accessible to youth from all economic backgrounds," said Don Grant, a vice president with Wells Fargo's Commercial Banking Group and an Issaquah resident.
"Wells Fargo believes in partnering with organizations that share our commitment to improving our communities," Grant added. "This $10,000 gift is a part of the $300 million that Wells Fargo has committed to donating to our communities over a 10-year period. Since returning to Washington in 1996, Wells Fargo has donated more than $4.4 million to non-profit organizations and schools in this state."
