Wells Fargo's $400,000 gift to United Way to assist 150 local human and health care programs in Oregon and S.W. Washington
PORTLAND — October 1, 1999
Wells Fargo has donated $400,000 to United Way of the Columbia-Willamette's 1999 campaign, providing much needed support to 150 local human and health care programs in Oregon and southwest Washington.
"This is one of the largest corporate gifts ever received by this United Way and will go a long way toward helping people in need," said Lawrence J. Norvell, president and CPO of United Way of the Columbia-Willamette. "Wells Fargo is a corporate citizen who cares about the local community and is interested in helping people make better lives for themselves."
The funds will help agency programs provide such things as childcare, emergency food assistance, and homeless services in the Portland and Vancouver area. The $400,000 is the largest single grant that Wells Fargo has given in Oregon since returning to this state in April 1996.
"United Way shares our goals of helping our community," said George Passadore of Portland, Wells Fargo's president for Oregon. "In addition to this gift for the Columbia-Willamette campaign, Wells Fargo is making contributions to 17 other local United Way campaigns throughout Oregon this year."
The $400,000 gift to United Way of the Columbia-Willamette means that Wells Fargo has given more than $1.1 million to this one agency since 1997. The gift is part of the $300 million that Wells Fargo committed in 1996 to giving to non-profit organizations and schools over a 10-year period. Wells Fargo has donated more than $6.8 million in Oregon in the last three years.
United Way is the largest fund-raising organization in Oregon and Southwest Washington for human and health care programs in Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties in Oregon and in Clark County in Washington.
