Wells Fargo Private Client Services has opened a Private Mortgage Banking office in Portland to provide mortgage services to high net worth individuals throughout Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, and Clark County, Wash.
Market Area Manager Mark Haldeman, who recently joined Wells Fargo, heads the new office. His unit provides mortgage loans of $200,000 and above.
"Our expanded capabilities help us provide more lending options to affluent borrowers," said Haldeman, a resident of Clackamas. "We can make loans with higher loan-to-value percentages than are typically available from a mortgage lender."
The Private Mortgage unit, which originated in 1994, is composed of 100 lenders who serve customers in all 50 states. Last year the division made more than 5,800 loans totaling $1.8 billion.
In addition to selling the loan, Haldeman also does his own underwriting, which is very rare in the mortgage business. He is working with Wells Fargo's mortgage and banking stores to generate referrals from throughout the western United States.
"We can help our clients wherever they are looking to purchase either primary or vacation homes. There are no limitations as to where we can go to help," he said.
Haldeman has worked in the financial services field for more than 23 years, all in the Portland area. Prior to his new position, Haldeman worked for eight years at Chase Manhattan Mortgage Corp. where as district manager he oversaw the delivery of mortgage services to customers in Oregon and Washington. He also served in positions at Security Pacific Bank and US Bank.
Haldeman earned a degree in business administration from Portland State University. He also graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington in Seattle. He has volunteered for many years as a soccer and basketball coach for community sports teams.
