Oakland Resident Receives 12 Free Mortgage Payments From Wells Fargo Home Mortgage
Des Moines — January 12, 2001
Some Wells Fargo Home Mortgage customers received an unexpected gift this holiday season. While most families are experiencing a budget crunch following the holidays, seven homeowners, including Pamela Grove of Oakland, Calif., are deciding what to do with their extra cash.
The seven homeowners won mortgage payments in a national sweepstakes sponsored by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Grove, the first-prize winner, received a year's worth of mortgage payments. Six second-prize winners each received one month's mortgage payment.
Wells Fargo Home Mortgage sponsored the sweepstakes as a way to introduce customers to its new name. In April 2000, the company changed its name from Norwest Mortgage following the merger of Norwest Corporation and Wells Fargo & Company in 1998.
"The sweepstakes was an important tool for us to show our more than four million customers that we are the same mortgage company, but with a new and better name," said Joy Griffiths, executive vice president of marketing and operations for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. "It served as a thank you to customers who have continued to allow us to serve them over many years."
Wells Fargo Home Mortgage recently contacted the sweepstakes winners to notify them of their prizes. The second-prize winners live in Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Draper, Utah; West Jordan, Utah; Las Vegas, Nev.; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Brooklyn, N.Y.
The winning customers' names were randomly drawn from approximately 645,000 entries received by Wells Fargo Home Mortgage. Customers with loans through Wells Fargo Home Mortgage were eligible to enter the sweepstakes.
