How to use the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card

Can I use my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card at any ATM?

You can use your card at both Wells Fargo and non-Wells Fargo ATMs (surcharges imposed by non-Wells Fargo ATM owners and operators apply unless waived by the terms of your account). In some cases where Prepaid isn't an option when processing your ATM transaction, select Checking. Please see the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card Terms and Conditions (PDF)* for fees that may apply.

Can I use my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card to make purchases?

You can use your Wells Fargo EasyPay Card to make everyday purchases and pay bills worldwide at participating retailers and service providers – including online or by phone.

Can I use my mobile device to make purchases with my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card?

Yes, you can add your Wells Fargo EasyPay Card to your mobile wallet. To learn more, please see our mobile wallet basics.

Can I make a purchase for more than the amount remaining on my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card?

It depends on where you use the card. Some merchants will permit you to use the card for part of the purchase price and pay the remainder with cash, a check, or another card. If you aren't sure whether the card balance will cover the purchase, be sure to ask the merchant if you can pay any remaining balance with another payment method.

How do I get a new Wells Fargo EasyPay Card PIN or change my existing PIN?

If you’ve recently opened a new Wells Fargo EasyPay Card in a branch, you may have already selected your Personal Identification Number (PIN). If not, a PIN will be mailed to you separately from your card. To change a PIN, go to a Wells Fargo ATM or branch or call 1-800-869-3557.

Can I get cash back above the amount of my purchase?

Yes, some retailers will allow you to specify an amount of cash back in addition to your purchase. To use this feature, you must follow the instructions on the retailer’s terminal and enter your PIN. Some retailers may charge a nominal fee for cash back above the amount of purchase.

Can I pay bills using my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card?

Yes, many service providers, like your mobile phone carrier or utility company, will allow you to use your card to pay a bill.

Does the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card work at gas stations?

Yes. To avoid a decline or a hold on your available balance, we recommend that you prepay for your gasoline inside the station. Please see the Authorization Holds section in the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card Terms and Conditions (PDF) if you’d like more details.

What should I do if a merchant declines my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card?

It’s possible the card's available balance was less than the purchase amount. To avoid these situations, check your available balance before making a purchase by using our convenient tools such as mobile or text banking, then inform the merchant of the card's remaining balance and use another form of payment to pay the difference.

Some merchants — for example, restaurants, hotels, and cruise lines — require that the card’s available balance be greater than the purchase amount, to ensure sufficient funds for tips or incidental expenses. Please note the available balance may not reflect all of your transactions, such as transactions that have been approved but not yet submitted for payment by the merchant or deposits where funds have a hold.

Can a hold be placed on funds in my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card for more than the actual transaction amount?

Yes, some retail establishments (such as hotels, car rental companies, restaurants, or gas stations) may initiate electronic notices seeking validation of the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card or approval of the anticipated purchase amount, or both.

Since the anticipated purchase amount may exceed the amount of the actual purchase transaction, we may place a hold against the card value for the anticipated purchase amount.

This hold may remain in effect from the time the notice is received from the retail establishment to the time the merchant draft or other item is presented to us, which can be up to 3 business days (or up to 30 business days for certain types of card transactions). Please see the section on Authorization Holds in the Wells Fargo EasyPay Card Terms and Conditions (PDF) for more details on holds.

What happens if I return an item purchased with my Wells Fargo EasyPay Card?

Merchants have their own return policies, so check the merchant’s policy so you know when to expect the credit to be included in your available balance. Keep in mind that it may take up to one week for a credit to appear on your card.
