Send and receive money with Zelle

Zelle is a convenient way to move money within minutes between friends, family, and other people you know and trust. With just an email address or mobile phone number, you can easily send money to almost anyone with a U.S.-based bank account directly from Wells Fargo Online® and Wells Fargo Mobile®. You can also request and receive money from other people. Zelle securely connects you to more people than ever. Whether you need to pay the babysitter, cover your share of the rent, or split the cost of pizza, Zelle is a great way to move money.

Getting Started

A few simple steps and you can send money to friends in minutes.

To use Zelle, you’ll need to have an eligible checking or savings account, and enroll in either Wells Fargo Online, or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.

To enroll:

  1. Sign on to Wells Fargo Online or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.
  2. From the Zelle screen, read and accept the Zelle® Transfer Service Addendum.

To get started with Zelle right away, make sure you register an email address or mobile number, along with the account where you want money to be deposited. Enroll now.

You can add recipients any time from Wells Fargo Online or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.

  1. Sign on to Wells Fargo Online or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.
  2. From the Zelle screen, locate the address book icon to access your contacts, then select the ‘+’ icon to add recipient.
  3. From the Add Recipient screen, enter the recipient’s first and last name, and then select how to send the money (either email address, mobile number, or account number) in the Send By field.
  4. Select Save or Send Money to save this contact to your Zelle recipient list.

Note: To use a mobile number to send a request for payment, the recipient must have already registered the number through their bank or zellepay.com. If the recipient has not registered their mobile number or if you aren’t sure if it’s registered, then enter their email address.

How to send money:

  1. Sign on to Wells Fargo Online or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.
  2. From the Zelle screen, select recipient from your list or Add a new recipient, select the From Account, enter an Amount and click Review.

What happens if you send money to:

  • Another person’s Wells Fargo account number, registered email address or registered mobile number:
    Your recipient will be notified of the payment, and the money will be deposited into their designated account.
  • Another person’s unregistered email address or mobile number:
    Your recipient will receive an email or text with registration instructions. Registration is required to associate your email or phone number with your checking or savings account. Once the recipient’s registration is complete, it may take up to 2 business days for the money to be deposited. Registration is required only once.

Note: Some customers may receive a one-time verification code for each email address or mobile number selected. If so, enter it in the verification code field.

To receive money, you must register your own email address or mobile number and designate a savings or checking account into which you want the money deposited.

How to register to receive money:

  1. Sign on to Wells Fargo Online or the Wells Fargo Mobile app.
  2. From the Zelle screen, click Receive Settings or Settings.
  3. From the Settings screen, select the account number of the account where you want money to be deposited, and then select Register beside the email address and/or mobile number you want to verify.

Note: Some customers may receive a one-time verification code for each email address or mobile number selected. If so, enter it in the verification code field.

To send a request for money from the Wells Fargo Mobile app to people you know, simply go to Send Money with Zelle under Transfer & Pay and select Request.

If someone you know sends you a request, you’ll receive an email explaining who is requesting money and how much. You can easily view and choose to respond to the request from your iPhone or Android smartphone.
