If you want to know how to use Wells Fargo Wallet to make a purchase with your Wells Fargo card, here are answers to some common questions.

How do I use Wells Fargo Wallet?

When you register for the Wells Fargo Wallet (through the Wells Fargo Wallet tile in the Wells Fargo Mobile App) for the first time, you'll be prompted to select a default payment method.

To make a purchase, unlock your device, and hold the device close to the terminal. The Wallet will launch, and the payment will initiate automatically with the default payment method. Alternately, you can select a different card to pay with prior to holding the device close to the terminal.

How do I sign on to the Wells Fargo Wallet and pay?

There are three ways to access and pay with the Wells Fargo Wallet:

  1. PIN or Pattern Unlock: If you have a PIN or pattern lock established on your phone, simply unlock your phone and hold the device in close proximity to the payment terminal at the cash register. The wallet will launch and your payment will initiate automatically with your default card. Alternately, you can select a different card to pay with prior to holding the device close to the terminal.
  2. Wallet Tile: After clicking on the Wells Fargo Mobile application icon, locate and click the Wells Fargo Wallet tile. In order to pay, press the “Pay Now” button. If you would like to use a card other than the default card, you may do so. Hold the device in close proximity to the payment terminal at the cash register.
  3. Mobile Banking App Login: Log into the Mobile Banking application using your online banking username and password. Locate and click the menu button. To access the Wallet, click “Wells Fargo Wallet”. To pay with the Wells Fargo Wallet, press the “Pay Now” button. If you would like to use a card other than the default card, you may do so. Hold the device in close proximity to the payment terminal at the cash register.

Where can I use the Wells Fargo Wallet?

Wells Fargo Wallet can be used at over one million participating merchants that display the universal contactless acceptance symbol.

What type of phone can I use with the Wells Fargo Wallet?

Customers can use Wells Fargo Wallet on a variety of eligible Android, NFC-enabled smartphones that use Android OS 4.4 (Kit Kat) or higher and have the Wells Fargo Mobile App installed.

What Wells Fargo cards can I add to Wells Fargo Wallet?

Wells Fargo Wallet will work with many of our consumer and small business cards including Wells Fargo Visa® credit cards, Debit Cards, and Prepaid Cards. Wells Fargo Propel American Express® credit cards are not currently eligible.

Can I add a card from another institution to Wells Fargo Wallet?

No, only eligible Wells Fargo cards will be available in the Wells Fargo Wallet.

How can I choose which Wells Fargo card to use with the Wells Fargo Wallet?

Once you have access to the Wells Fargo Wallet, you'll find all of your eligible Wells Fargo cards displayed.

  • You may designate which card to use as the default payment method for Wells Fargo Wallet purchases.
  • You may add other eligible cards to use as alternate payment methods.
  • You can also change the default payment card at any time.

How can I manage my cards?

Navigate to the wallet Home screen via the wallet tile or the global menu within mobile banking. From the wallet Home screen, tap “Manage Wells Fargo Wallet” to manage your cards.

Is the Wells Fargo Wallet safe to use?

Your security is our priority. When you make a payment with the wallet, funds are securely transferred from your account.

  • We use 128-bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption to mask your sensitive information.
  • We'll never transmit your account number from your phone, and your card PIN is not stored on your phone. The merchant will not have access to your debit card, prepaid card, or credit card information.
  • All transactions are monitored by Wells Fargo’s risk and fraud detection systems.
  • Our Online Security Guarantee provides added protection against unauthorized access to your accounts as well as Zero Liability protection.

What is a digital card number?

For your security, cards in Wells Fargo Wallet are assigned a digital card number for making purchases using your mobile device. If you use multiple devices, you will have a different digital card number for each device.

Can I use my digital card number to make purchases outside the wallet?

No. Your digital card number is for mobile transactions only. It does not affect your ability to make purchases with your physical card.

Where can I view my transaction history?

All purchases made using the wallet will appear on the banking statement for the card you have chosen.

What if I lose or replace my mobile device?

When you sign on to Wells Fargo Wallet from a new device, you will need to register the device for Wells Fargo Wallet. Your card will be assigned a new digital card number, even if you choose the same card used with your previous mobile device.

All digital card numbers associated with a device that has been reported lost or stolen will be deactivated.

What if my Wells Fargo card is lost or stolen?

The closed card will no longer be displayed as an eligible card in Wells Fargo Wallet. You replacement card will be displayed as an eligible card in Wells Fargo Wallet once the card has been activated.

Do I need to be connected to the internet or a cellular network to make a payment?

For purchase transactions, you do not need to be connected to the internet or cellular network to make a payment. However, you will need to connect every so often to refresh the app and keep the security credentials current. This will ensure Wells Fargo Wallet is ready when you are.
