You may have to provide an unexpired government-issued ID number to verify your identity on a loan application. Some examples include:
- Social Security number
- Individual Taxpayer Identification number
- Green card
- Foreign visa
- Foreign passport number and name of issuing country
- Alien identification card
For certain loan programs, or when additional verification is required, you may need to provide a passport, a driver’s license, or other government-issued photo ID to verify your identity.
Tips for a smoother application process
- Make sure documents are clear and legible.
- Don't alter any pages (no strikethroughs, cross-outs, etc.).
- Send all pages, even the blank ones.
