Can all deposit holders get an instant debit card or business instant debit card such as my spouse, business partner, or employee?

Do I need to activate this card and select a PIN before I use it?

Your card is ready to use as soon as you receive it. Just be sure to select your Personal Identification Number (PIN) and sign the back of the card right away, as merchants will need your signature to verify card ownership. You will be able to use the same PIN for your permanent debit card once you receive it in the mail and activate it.

Can I start using my card right away?

Yes, your temporary card comes with all the same features and benefits as your permanent card. You can use your instant debit card or business instant debit card to make everyday purchases and pay bills worldwide at participating retailers and service providers – including online or by phone.

What are the daily limits on my card?

Your temporary card comes with a daily limit on the dollar amount of purchases you can make with your card. You also have a daily cash withdrawal limit at the ATM. Your daily purchase and cash withdrawal limits are printed on the materials that come with your card. Does the instant debit card or business instant debit card work the same as the permanent card?

Yes, your temporary card comes with all the same features and benefits as your permanent card. You can use your instant debit card or business instant debit card worldwide at participating retailers and service providers including grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations – even for Internet, mail and phone purchases. You can even use your card to make recurring bill payments.

Plus, the card enables you to get cash, transfer funds between accounts, and make deposits at more than 12,000 Wells Fargo ATMs nationwide. The amount of your purchases and transactions will always come out of the primary checking account linked to your card.

It’s easy to use your card:

  • At a merchant with a keypad. Press “credit” and sign for purchases. Or press “debit” and enter your PIN — even get extra cash.
  • At a merchant without a keypad. Present your card to the cashier and sign the receipt when necessary.
  • Online or by phone. Provide your card number and expiration date when asked.
  • At an ATM. Enter your card and PIN to withdraw cash.

How can I get a customized debit card?

Customize your permanent card with the Wells Fargo Card Design Studio® service within five (5) calendar days of receiving your instant debit card or business instant debit card. Your permanent card will arrive in the mail with the photo or image you selected. For business customers, you can even choose to put your company logo on your permanent card.

To get started, simply:

Can I use my temporary card to pay bills?

Yes, you can use your card to make recurring bill payments. Simply contact your service providers and ask to pay with your Wells Fargo Instant Debit Card or Business Instant Debit Card. When you get your permanent card in the mail, be sure to update your service providers with your new information if your card number or expiration date has changed.

Why is the instant debit card not personalized with my name?

The instant debit card is specially prepared for Wells Fargo customers to provide immediate access to the money in your account. Merchants can verify card ownership by checking your signature on the back of the card against your identification.

Why is the business instant debit card not personalized with my name and my business name?

The business instant debit card is specially prepared for Wells Fargo business customers to provide immediate access to the money in your account. Merchants can verify card ownership by checking your signature on the back of the card against your identification.

Is my card safe to use without my name on the front?

Yes, merchants will accept your card as long as you sign the back of the card. Some merchants may ask to see a second form of identification. This is because they need to verify card ownership. As a Wells Fargo cardholder, your card comes with the built-in security feature of Zero Liability protection, so you’re not responsible for unauthorized purchases or ATM transactions, as long as you report them promptly. Please refer to the applicable Account Agreement for information on liability for unauthorized transactions.

What do I do if a merchant does not accept my card?

If you run into any issues, call the number on the back of your instant debit card or business instant debit card. For comments or assistance, stop by your local Wells Fargo store, call 1-800-869-3557 (for Consumers), or 1-800-225-5935 (for Small Business).

When should I expect to receive my permanent card?

Your permanent card will arrive in the mail 12 to 15 calendar days after you open a new account, or 7 to 10 calendar days after you request a replacement permanent card. Once you receive your permanent card in the mail, please activate it. You can start using it with your existing PIN. Be sure to destroy the temporary card.

What should I do if my card is lost or stolen?

If I order a replacement card, will my current alert subscription(s) carry over to my temporary instant debit card for use until I receive my replacement card?

Not at this time. Current alert subscription(s) will not carry over to the temporary instant debit card.

However, current alert subscription(s) will carry over from your original debit card to your replacement debit card.
