Foreign Currency Questions

How do I order foreign currency?

There are three ways to obtain foreign currency through Wells Fargo:

  1. Online. Using an eligible Wells Fargo checking or savings account, it takes just minutes to place an order and have currency delivered within 2-7 business days (to the home address saved in your Wells Fargo customer profile). Less commonly requested currencies can take longer. Additional currencies may be available by phone or at a Wells Fargo branch.
  2. By phone. Call Wells Fargo at 1-800-626-9430, Monday – Friday, 5 am – 6 pm, Saturday, 7 am – 2 pm Pacific Time. Use an eligible Wells Fargo checking or savings account to have currency delivered to the home address saved in our Wells Fargo customer profile or to a nearby Wells Fargo branch.
  3. In person. Wells Fargo account owners can order currency at any Wells Fargo branch. Many branches throughout the U.S. keep frequently ordered foreign currencies on-hand for immediate availability. To find a location near you that keeps currency on hand, use our branch locator (select the foreign currency checkbox to filter your results). Call in advance for availability of specific currencies.

How much foreign currency can I order?

Online orders are limited to a maximum of $3,000 (USD equivalent) per day and a minimum of $200 (USD equivalent) for one order. The minimum purchase amount for each currency is $25 (USD equivalent) and up to five types of currencies can be added to one order. All currencies in your order will be sent in a single shipment and the delivery date will depend on availability of currencies.

For orders over $3,000 (USD equivalent), visit a Wells Fargo branch.

Why are foreign currency rates quoted here different than those I see elsewhere?

Wells Fargo's retail foreign currency rates differ from other banks, foreign currency providers, and rates found online (those rates are generally for wholesale transactions, not for consumers). Wells Fargo updates foreign currency exchange rates at the beginning of each business day (Monday – Friday), excluding holidays.

Can I order foreign currency without a checking or savings account?

Only Wells Fargo checking or savings account holders can order foreign currency.

Can I have currency shipped to my home?

Orders placed online or by phone can be delivered to the home address saved in your Wells Fargo customer profile. Wells Fargo delivers within the United States only and cannot deliver to P.O. boxes. A signature is required upon delivery. If your home address has restrictions that prevent delivery, you can place a foreign currency order by phone or in person and have it delivered to a nearby Wells Fargo branch. How do I order foreign currency?

Orders placed online that have not already shipped can sometimes be updated for delivery to a Wells Fargo branch. Call 1-800-626-9430 and provide the order confirmation number.

When will my currency order be delivered?

Foreign currency orders received before 12 pm Pacific Time will generally be processed for next day delivery (in most areas). Orders received after 12 pm weekdays or on weekends will be processed the following business day. Wells Fargo does not schedule Saturday delivery. Less common currencies may take additional time to process and deliver, due to limited availability. Delivery to Alaska, Hawaii, and U.S. territories may take longer. Once a foreign currency order has been filled and shipped, an email confirmation will be sent with a package tracking number.
