Debit Card Travel Tips

  • Help avoid issues when using your cards while traveling*. Add your travel plan online, use your mobile banking app, or call us at 1-800-TO-WELLS (1-800-869-3557).
  • For assistance while traveling, you can call Wells Fargo toll-free from foreign countries.
  • Most foreign ATMs require a four-digit numeric Personal Identification Number (PIN). If you have an alphabetic PIN, translate the letters into numbers by using the keypad at a Wells Fargo ATM before you travel. You can also do this by visiting a Wells Fargo store or calling us at 1-800-869-3557.
  • Debit cards often give you a better exchange rate than you’ll receive at currency exchange bureaus.
  • Find out your card's daily ATM cash withdrawal and purchase limits before you travel by visiting your Card Profile Page at wellsfargo.com or talk to your local Wells Fargo banker.
  • Many foreign ATM networks offer instructions in English, but not all of them.
  • Some foreign ATMs are available only during normal business hours.
  • Withdraw enough cash to cover expenses should you travel to small towns. Many do not have ATMs.
  • Most foreign ATMs only permit transactions involving your primary linked account.
  • If you’re unable to use your debit card at an ATM, use it to get an over-the-counter cash disbursement at a local bank*.  Fees may apply.
  • Put your money and your card away immediately after making a withdrawal. Count your money later, out of public view.

* At this time, Wells Fargo cards cannot be used in Cuba. Please call us at 1-800-TO-WELLS (1-800-869-3557) to learn about other options for making purchases if you plan to travel to Cuba.
