Many countries worldwide have already adopted this technology for card payments, and it will soon become the standard in the U.S. as well. Wells Fargo wants to help you be ready for the transition.
Wells Fargo Debit and Prepaid Cards are now available with a chip on the front of the card. The chip provides added security when used with a chip-enabled merchant terminal or ATM because it is extremely difficult to counterfeit or copy, and does not store any personal information. The chip also enables you to use your card internationally, where chip technology is already in place.
Using the new chip card is easy.
If a merchant accepts chip cards, the terminal will include a slot where your card is inserted and remains until the transaction is completed.
Simply insert your card and follow the instructions to complete your transaction. You may be asked to enter your Personal Identification Number or “PIN”.
[“AUTHORIZING,” “ENTER PIN,” ”APPROVED,” and “REMOVE CARD” appear on a small display on a card reader. A footnote reads: Actual card reader screen messages may vary.]
Your new card also has a traditional magnetic stripe on the back, so, if a merchant or ATM has not yet adopted chip technology, your transaction will be processed using the magnetic stripe on the back as it is today.
[“APPROVED” appears on a small display on a card reader.]
Remember, your card comes with Zero Liability protection* at no additional cost. With Zero Liability protection you won’t be held liable for promptly reported unauthorized transactions.
[A footnote reads: *Please see your applicable Wells Fargo account agreement for information on liability for unauthorized transactions.]
