Protecting your checking account
With Overdraft Protection, you can protect yourself from the inconvenience of declined transactions or returned (bounced) checks. Sign up for Overdraft Protection and link your Wells Fargo credit card to your checking account. Then, if you happen to spend more than you have in your checking account, your available credit will be used to authorize the transaction.
We’ll transfer a minimum of $25 to cover your negative balance. If your available credit is less than $25, we'll transfer the available credit.
Overdraft Protection fee
If the Bank transfers money, you’ll be charged a single Overdraft Protection advance fee regardless of the number of transactions presented for payment that day. This fee will vary depending on the amount of money transferred, and the advance is treated as a cash advance. See full terms and conditions.
Setting up Overdraft Protection
When you apply for your Wells Fargo Credit Card, check the Overdraft Protection box or sign into Online Banking, go to Account Services, and select Add/Change Overdraft Services.
Your credit card must be activated; if not activated, no money will transfer to cover the overdraft. Once your credit card has been activated, please allow up to 3 business days for your Overdraft Protection service to be fully enabled.
All Wells Fargo Credit Cards are subject to credit qualification. Wells Fargo reserves the right to change terms, rates, and fees at its discretion in accordance with the card agreement and applicable law. Generally, we will apply your minimum payment first to lower APR balances (such as purchases) before balances with higher APRs (such as cash advances). Payments made in excess of the minimum monthly payment will generally be applied to balances with higher APRs first before balances with lower ones.

If you choose to link your Account to your Wells Fargo Checking Account for Overdraft Protection, please note the following. If you have a joint checking account, you will be responsible for all advances, including interest and charges from your credit card to cover overdrafts regardless of who writes the check, makes the debit card purchase, or engages in any other transaction that causes the overdraft. An Overdraft Protection Advance Fee will be charged to your Account each day an Overdraft Protection Advance is made, and interest will accrue from the date each advance is made. Your credit card must be activated; if it is not activated, no money will transfer to cover the overdraft. Once your credit card has been activated, please allow up to 3 business days for your Overdraft Protection service to be fully enabled. Refer to the Consumer Credit Card Customer Agreement and Disclosure Statement for details. Please note that you may also be able to link your Wells Fargo Savings Account to your Wells Fargo Checking Account for Overdraft Protection. No interest is charged on Overdraft Protection transfers from your savings account; however, an Overdraft Protection Transfer fee will be assessed. Overdraft Protection transfers from a Savings account count towards the Regulation D and Wells Fargo combined total limit of 6 transfers and withdrawals per monthly fee period. If the limit is exceeded, an Excess Activity fee for each transfer or withdrawal will be assessed. If the limit is exceeded on more than an occasional basis, your Savings account could be converted to a Checking account or closed.
If you are not a current Wells Fargo Credit Card customer, you must have an existing Wells Fargo relationship to apply online for a credit card. If you already have another Wells Fargo account besides a checking account, you may apply online for both a credit card and a checking account.
