Fundamentals of Investing for Depository Institutions

This course is designed for new and future portfolio managers, as well as those who work with investment portfolios but would like a better understanding of fixed income products and markets. It is intended to provide a foundational overview of investment securities that are relevant to depository institutions. Topics covered include:

  • Agencies, municipals, and mortgage-backed securities

Advanced Mortgage Concepts

This is an advanced mortgage course and is intended for those who are already familiar with fixed income markets in general, and mortgage products in particular. It covers the more advanced concepts and products relating to the mortgage markets. Topics covered include:

  • Hedging: Methods, instruments, ratios, and costs
  • Dollar rolls: What are they, how do they work, what do they tell us about the market
  • General market strategies

Director, Interest Rate Risk Management

Von Garces is a director with the Interest Rate Risk Management group within Wells Fargo Securities. He has been in banking for 21 years and with derivatives for 16 years. Von focuses on structuring interest rate, cross-currency, and commodity derivative programs for accounting sensitive customers ranging from multinational and U.S.-based corporates, middle-market, financial institutions, and municipals.

Brian Grabenstein

Brian Grabenstein is the Head of the Wells Fargo LIBOR Transition Office (LTO), a position he has held since February 2018.   The LTO is charged with developing and directing the execution of a coordinated strategy to transition the numerous LIBOR-based products and processes across Wells Fargo to alternative reference rates.

Shannon Grant is a director in the Interest Rate Risk Management group within the Markets Division of Wells Fargo Securities. Mark Hanson

Senior Vice President, Freddie Mac Securitization, Investments & Capital Markets

Mark D. Hanson is the senior vice president of Freddie Mac's Securitization Division. In this role, he oversees Freddie Mac's mortgage securitization efforts, including pass-thru, REMIC, and strip issuance. He is also responsible for developing and implementing new mortgage security products and capabilities that meet the needs of institutional investors, broker/dealers, lenders, servicers, and third party vendors. Additionally, Hanson leads Freddie Mac's efforts supporting FHFA's directives around the Single Security, expanding liquidity in the conventional TBA space.

Chris Iannuzzi

Chris Iannuzzi currently heads the RMBS Pass-through and ARM trading desks at Wells Fargo, where he primarily focuses on risk management, balance sheet allocation, and making markets in Agency RMBS.
