John L. Stone, CPC, QPA
John is a pension consultant in the Nashville office of BPS&M. He has 24 years of experience in the design, funding, administration, and regulatory compliance of defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans. His specialty client practice areas are Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) and 401(k) plans. John provides consulting and administration for ESOPs with closely held stock and publicly traded stock. He has an extensive background in testing retirement plans for nondiscrimination. John has helped numerous employers design and administer their retirement plans while keeping them in compliance. In his most recent ESOP projects, John provided ESOP recordkeeping and consulting services for a privately held company with more than 9,000 employees and 16,000 participants. Also, John provides services to a publicly traded company with more than 10,000 employees in its KSOP. John has experience working with both C Corporations and S Corporations. He also works with both leveraged and non-leveraged ESOPs. John is a frequent attendee of Administration Committee meetings at the annual ESOP Association conferences in Washington, D.C. and Las Vegas. John’s primary areas of practice are retirement consulting for ESOPs, 401(k) plans, and other types of defined contribution plans. He is a member of the BPS&M ESOP Practice Group.
Education and professional designations
John received a B.S. in Mathematics and Actuarial Science from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. He is a Certified Pension Consultant (1993) and a Qualified Pension Administrator (1989).
John is a member of the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, for which he has done work on the Government Affairs Committee, and a member of both the ESOP Association and The National Center for Employee Ownership.
