David R. Alderson, J.D.
David has been with BPS&M since 2000. He is a technical and research (T&R) consultant and the firm’s compliance coordinator. He is responsible for assuring that retirement plan documents and disclosure materials comply with regulations and guidelines established by the IRS and DOL. David also oversees the firm’s prototype and volume submitter program, mandatory amendment projects, the preparation and filing of IRS voluntary correction submissions and IRS determination letters applications, and the review of qualified domestic relations orders. He is responsible for drafting and reviewing plan documents, summary plan descriptions, notices, and other technical documents. As a T&R consultant, he advises clients on such technical topics as plan acquisitions and mergers, protected benefits, multiple employer plans, and legislative and regulatory changes. With a background as an attorney specializing in municipal law and public financing, David has more than 20 years of experience in regulatory compliance.
Education and professional designations
David received his J.D. from San Joaquin College of Law and his B.A. in journalism from California State University, Fresno. He is licensed to practice law in California.
David is a member of the California Bar Association. He is currently a member of the IRS’ Determination Letter Liaison Group, a roundtable consisting of IRS representatives and members from the employee benefits private sector.
