Tom Murphy, Executive Vice President, Head of Wells Fargo Preferred Capital

Tom is an executive vice president and the head of Wells Fargo Preferred Capital (WFPC), an asset-based consumer lending division of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.
Tom joined Wells Fargo’s predecessor, Norwest, as a credit manager in the firm’s U.S. Consumer operations in 1985. He was subsequently promoted to branch manager and managed consumer lending platforms in Wichita, Kan., and Springfield, Mo. In 1992, he was promoted to a director with Wells Fargo Financial in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1993 was named district manager, accountable for consumer lending operations throughout Oklahoma and Texas.
In 1997, Tom returned to Des Moines to start up the operations of Wells Fargo Preferred Capital. He served in various executive roles and was named president of Wells Fargo Preferred Capital in 2006. In 2010, Wells Fargo Preferred Capital became a division of Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.
Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, is a graduate of the Norwest College of Commercial Credit, and has completed negotiations training seminars through the Kellogg School of Management. He is a past member of United States Marine Corps Reserve and attended Officer’s Candidate School in Quantico, Virginia.
Tom serves as Co-Chair of Wells Fargo’s Central Iowa Diversity council and is a long-time leadership giver and executive sponsor of the United Way of Central Iowa. Tom, his wife, and three children reside in West Des Moines, Iowa.
