Introducing cards with chip technology from Wells Fargo.
Many countries worldwide have already adopted this technology for card payments, and it will soon become the standard in the U.S. as well. Wells Fargo wants to help you be ready for the transition.
Wells Fargo cards are now available with a chip on the front of the card. When used at a chip-enabled terminal or ATM, the chip provides added security against counterfit fraud by making it extremely difficult for your information to be reused. The chip also enables you to use your card internationally, where chip technology is already in place.
Using the new chip card is easy. Unlike magnetic stripe cards that you swipe to complete a purchase or payment, a card with chip technology is inserted into the terminal and remains there throughout the transaction. Simply follow the instructions on the terminal to complete your transaction.
You may be asked to provide a signature or enter your Personal Identification Number or PIN. Your PIN is always required at ATMs and may be required at some unattended terminals worldwide, such as ticket kiosks, parking lots, and gas stations. Remember to remove your card when your transaction is complete.
Your new chip card will still have a magnetic stripe on the back, so if your merchant or ATM is not yet equipped for chip technology, your transaction will be processed using the magnetic stripe on the back as it is today.
Remember, your card comes with Zero Liability protection* at no additional cost. With Zero Liability protection you won’t be held liable for promptly reported unauthorized card transactions as long as you report them promptly.
Please see your applicable Wells Fargo account agreement for information on liability for unauthorized transactions.
To request a chip card now, call the phone number on the back of your card. Prepaid chip cards are not available through all Wells Fargo store locations.
