Education: BA in Mathematics and BS in Computer Science, Augsburg College

What do you do in your role?
In my role, we provide a technical solution to our team members’ business needs. I work with internal customers, supporting the HR Service Center. Currently we are working on a call-tracking system to track the issues that team members are calling about. We’re also working on various desktop applications, that help team members do their jobs better.

What are some highlights from your career?
Seeing how the technology world has changed, and being part of the journey. I’m excited about coming to work everyday because I know I’ll be working on things that are new. You do one thing one day, and the next day or next year you’re doing the same thing, but better.

Why did you go back to school to get a Master’s degree?
Before I got my MA degree, I felt like I needed to reenergize, so I went back to school to enhance my skills. Wells Fargo paid for most of my Master’s education. Getting the extra education has helped me be more assertive, to play the role of bridging the technology world and the business world. That’s what my role is now. It’s to listen to one side, then listen to the other, and think how do we bridge the gap? And then help find what tools will do that.

What has surprised you about your career at Wells Fargo?
I came to this country from Vietnam in 1984. The shirt on my back was all I had. In my first eight years here, I got an education, I learned English, and I learned math and computer science. What surprised me was that journey of starting from nowhere to the career I’ve had at Wells Fargo. It demonstrates that you can always start somewhere. All it takes is your determination and your drive to be successful.
