Carol, Collector

Name: Carol
Start Date: October 1999
Current Position: Collector
Location: San Bernadino, CA
Education: BA in Finance, University of Phoenix

What do you do in your role?
We collect on home loans, from 30-day accounts to delinquencies, such as active foreclosures. We call to let homeowners know they’re behind on their mortgages. On the more serious delinquents, we try to work out arrangements. For example, if they fell behind due to loss of income or because they suddenly went on disability, we try to set them up on a payment plan or pre-qualify them for a loan modification. As a collector, there’s a lot of talking and listening to homeowners, so that we can understand what the best solution for them is.

What do you like about your job?
I enjoy helping the people who want to keep their homes. Once you’re able to set up an arrangement, homeowners feel relieved, and you can hear it in their voices.

How did you get started at Wells Fargo?
It was a temporary, summer job; I processed titles for all lease-returned vehicles. In the fall, when it was time to go back to school, I was offered a full-time position. I decided to go forward to get both my work experience and my education.

Wells Fargo has always worked with me to balance work with my school schedule. I was able to take my classes and do my work at the same time.

What are your hobbies outside of work?
I have three kids, two boys and a girl, ages 10, 6, and 4, and I enjoy spending time with them. We enjoy going out to the amusement park, to movies — things like that. I use the Wells Fargo discount center to purchase tickets.

How would you describe your work/life balance?
I work from 5 am to 2 pm. That’s a really good shift for me because I have time to go home and spend the afternoon with the kids. Wells Fargo offers different schedules that allow you to balance your work with your life.
