Undergraduate Programs: Leadership Pipeline Program - Wholesale Banking

Program Description

The Wholesale Banking division of Wells Fargo provides comprehensive financial solutions to corporate clients in every major industry. Our clientele is comprised of large multinational corporations, middle market companies, developers and investors (public and private) in the commercial real estate market, financial institutions, private equity firms and government entities.

The Leadership Pipeline Program is a competitive, non-rotational development program that provides broad exposure to various business segments of Wholesale Banking including Commercial Banking, the Technology Services Group, Wells Fargo Insurance, Treasury Services, International Banking, Loan Servicing and the Wells Fargo Securities Platform. Based on candidate preference and business need, analysts will be placed in one of four functional capacities described below. The program focuses on practical hands-on learning and provides opportunity to engage in projects that are cross-departmental in scope and impact. Positions are available in domestic financial centers including: San Francisco, Minneapolis and Charlotte.

Sales and Client Services

Partner with the sales and service teams to provide servicing for client portfolios. Creating and presenting quarterly review presentations to high value clients by presenting new products and services. Partner with the sales and research teams to set up products and services for wholesale client accounts.

Project Management

Partner with managers in the coordination, monitoring, completion and reporting of various projects according to business specifications to achieve targeted objectives.


Oversee operations and activities for Wholesale Banking lines of business, ensure clear and effective reporting for senior management, and identify opportunities for cost sharing, expense reduction and budget transparency.


Provide innovative technology solutions to address challenges encountered by lines of business, leverage technological infrastructure, maximize productivity and advance the firm’s competitive advantage throughout the Enterprise

Program Curriculum

Throughout the 12-month program, Analysts participate in both formal classroom-based and computer-based training. Analysts have exposure to senior management and executives during quarterly dialogue sessions that are developed exclusively for the program and are focused on cultivating leadership skills and fostering professional development.

Each analyst will be paired with a program manager, mentor and human resources consultant. This team, along with the analyst, will work together to identify strengths, opportunities for growth, develop skills, and provide guidance. The combined elements of formal training and supplemental resource network will provide the ideal foundation for a successful career at Wells Fargo. At the conclusion of the 12 month program analysts will continue in their line of business.


Analysts become an integral part of a team and have the opportunity to assume significant responsibility that may include:

  • Project analysis, scope definition, requirement gathering, feasibility metrics, timeline projection, alternative identification, research and recommendation
  • Complete business and systems analysis as related to project scope
  • Create and deliver presentations on project goals and plans, track project status/results and ensure project tasks are completed according to established timelines
  • Interface with internal/external resources to ensure client satisfaction and project completion


Candidates must demonstrate a combination of academic aptitude, quantitative skills, personal motivation and distinguished written and oral communication skills. Analysts are required to manage several projects at once and work effectively as an individual and as part of a team. Preference is given to those with the following skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team participation in college, extracurricular or work related environments
  • Proven track record of taking initiative
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility
  • Energetic self-starter who is flexible, conscientious, proactive and detail-oriented
  • Ability to interact confidently and professionally with clients and managers
