Program Description

Wells Fargo Securities consists of nearly 4,500 team members including more than 1,000 dedicated support team members in 40+ offices across the United States, Europe and Asia focused on middle-market and large corporations, and global institutional investors. Wells Fargo Securities brings together the company's market-leading businesses in debt and equity underwriting, mergers and acquisitions, loan syndications, debt and equity sales and trading, tax-exempt products, research and economics, and hedging products relating to equity, commodities and interest rate risks. Our customer-driven model is focused on delivering capital markets solutions to long standing customer relationships in middle-market, large corporate, institutional, commercial real estate, municipal and internal Wells Fargo client segments.

Analyst Program

The Analyst Program is non-rotational and provides the opportunity to gain experience working for one of the most well regarded financial institutions in the world. The Analyst Program offers two tracks: Investment Banking & Capital Markets or Sales & Trading. Placements are based on candidate interest and fit as well as group needs.

Investment Banking & Capital Markets

Program Overview
Organized by industry sector, the Investment Banking and Capital Markets team is dedicated to understanding the unique competitive and operating environments of our clients. The group combines strong relationships and industry knowledge with superior capital markets and advisory capabilities that includes debt and equity underwriting, mergers and acquisitions, and loan syndications. Our team maintains active relationships with a broad universe of middle-market, large corporate and institutional clients, and is highly experienced in delivering exceptional execution.

Training
Analysts start with a comprehensive six to eight week training program in Charlotte before beginning work with their business unit. The training combines all the analysts from various lines of business and includes classroom instruction in financial accounting, cash flow, credit analysis, financial modeling, and valuation. Wells Fargo professionals and consultants with special expertise in their fields equip analysts with the skills, knowledge and tools to make an immediate contribution to their team. Analysts will also receive on-the-job coaching, mentoring, and feedback throughout their tenure.

Opportunities
Analyst opportunities are primarily available in Charlotte, New York, and San Francisco within one of the following industry or product groups. Limited opportunities may also be available in Chicago, Houston, and Los Angeles, and St. Louis.

Corporate Finance
Provides a full range of investment banking and advisory services to clients in the following industries:
  • Consumer, Healthcare and Gaming
  • Energy and Power
  • Financial Institutions
  • Industrials
  • Technology, Media and Telecommunications

High Grade Debt Capital Markets – Originates, structures, and syndicates various high grade debt and quasi-equity securities for corporate clients. Provides financing solutions tailored to corporate clients to support acquisition financing, growth financing, recapitalizations and/or refinancing transactions.
Loan Syndications & High Yield Debt Capital Markets – Originates, structures, underwrites, and executes loan syndication and high yield transactions for corporate and financial sponsor clients. Provides financing solutions tailored to corporate and financial sponsor clients to support acquisition financing, growth financing, recapitalizations and/or refinancing transactions.
Equity Capital Markets – Partners with Equity Origination, Equity Syndicate and the Special Equities Desk to originate, structure and execute equity and equity-linked financing solutions for corporate and financial sponsor clients.
Financial Sponsors – Originates leveraged finance, mergers/acquisitions, and equity transactions.
Mergers and Acquisitions / Advisory – Assists middle market and large corporate clients in achieving their strategic and financial objectives in partnership with industry and specialty coverage groups. Services include sell side advisory, buy side advisory, strategic financial advisory, fairness opinions, takeover defense, and private equity placements.
Middle Market Group – Provides investment banking coverage to select middle-market clients and emerging growth companies in Wells Fargo's core commercial and retail geographic footprint. The group advises middle market financial sponsors and has dedicated merger and acquisition execution capabilities.

Sales & Trading

Program Overview
The sales, trading, origination and research teams deliver a comprehensive set of capital market products and solutions to the broader Wells Fargo customer base, ranging from distribution of public debt and equity products to hedging interest rates, commodity and equity risks.

Training
Analysts will develop an understanding of the concepts, mechanics and applications of market fundamentals as well as the interface between products and markets through a comprehensive six to eight week training program in Charlotte. Wells Fargo professionals and consultants with special expertise in their fields equip analysts with the skills, knowledge and tools to make an immediate contribution to their team. Analysts will also receive on-the-job coaching, mentoring and feedback throughout their tenure.

Opportunities
Analyst opportunities are primarily available in Charlotte with limited opportunities in New York, San Francisco, Houston and Chicago.

Asset Backed Finance – Provides structured lending and securitization services to core clients across all asset-types including consumer assets, corporate loans, residential mortgages, commercial mortgages, and corporate operating assets.

Markets Division

Fixed Income Sales and Trading – Distributes and trades securities to support issuing clients who are raising debt in the capital markets, investing clients who are sourcing bonds for investment needs, and clients with needs to hedge interest rate, commodity price, and equity price risks in their businesses through the use of derivatives.
Interest Rate Risk Management – Helps companies analyze and manage financial risk resulting from changes and clients with needs to hedge interest rates and commodity prices.
Equity Sales and Trading – Provides sales and trading for clients who are raising equity and convertibles in the capital markets as well as investors looking to secure equities for their investment needs.
Commodities - Offers a variety of customized derivative and physical solutions to help companies manage their exposure to commodity markets, primarily in energy, metals and agriculture.
Principal Investing Group – Originates and holds an investment portfolio of credit sensitive or structured securities and financings.
Research and Economics – Provides support to sales, trading, and origination teams by adding value to both fixed income and equity investors through publishing, idea generation, and calling efforts.

Government & Institutional Banking

Municipal Sales & Trading – An active market-maker and liquidity provider for tax-exempt and taxable municipals. Dedicates sales specialists focused on selling municipal products to top-tier institutional municipal buyers nationwide.
Public Finance Investment Banking – A fully developed Investment Banking platform that provides capital raising solutions for government, education, tax-exempt and nonprofit healthcare issuer clients. Clients are covered by geographic and industry specific investment banking teams
Responsibilities
Analysts assume significant responsibility that may include:
  • Developing and maintaining models to depict projected financial results and to value companies
  • Working closely with senior bankers on presentations, financial and credit analysis, and the preparation of financial projections and models
  • Supporting various financial analyses, including valuations and merger consequences
  • Performing comprehensive and in-depth company and industry research
  • Preparing presentations and other materials for clients
  • Conducting research, participating in strategic planning and assisting in the execution of advisory services
  • Conducting financial analysis, preparing credit packages, and monitoring existing deals; creating pitches, proposals, and marketing materials
  • Participating in client meetings, due diligence visits, and other client interactions to gain exposure to key executives and senior bankers
  • Structuring customized investment strategies using conventional cash and derivative products for individual investors
  • Executing and booking trades
  • Using risk-management tools to monitor trading positions and manage risk
Qualifications
Analysts must demonstrate a combination of academic aptitude, quantitative skills, personal motivation, distinguished written and verbal communication and presentation skills, excellence in working effectively as an individual and as part of a team, and an ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. It is strongly preferred that your background include:
  • A bachelor’s degree with academic distinction
  • Coursework in financial accounting and corporate finance
  • Strong interest in financial markets with expertise in macroeconomics, business cycle analysis, fixed income or commodity markets attained through coursework, individual study and prior work experience
  • Dedication to building a career in the financial services industry
  • Proven ability to take on significant responsibility
  • Willingness to work long hours in a demanding, highly focused and collaborative team environment
  • Energetic self-starter who is flexible, organized, conscientious, proactive, and detail-oriented
  • An individual who demonstrates a sense of personal accountability and urgency for achieving results
  • A graduation date of December 2013- May 2014
