Undergraduate Internships: Leadership Pipeline Program - Wholesale Banking

Program Description

Wholesale Banking is a leading financial services provider to businesses (from mid-sized companies to large corporations), real estate developers/real estate investment trusts, government entities, and international trade finance clients. It provides these external customers with a comprehensive selection of products and services that include traditional lending, treasury management, asset-based lending, access to capital markets, international trade, real estate and institutional investments.

The Leadership Pipeline Program Summer Analyst Program (LPP SAP) provides participants an in-depth understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of a full-time Wells Fargo team member. The program exposes participants to a variety of business groups, providing a good understanding of Wells Fargo’s operations, business strategies, and corporate culture.

Depending on the business group, the duration of the program is approximately 10-12 weeks and is located in San Francisco, CA, Minneapolis, MN, and Charlotte, NC. Summer Analysts receive a comprehensive professional and educational experience through on-the-job internships by joining a business group and working alongside team members who are experts in their fields. In addition, the program offers organized activities that allow participants to meet senior executives, network with others interns across business lines, and form lasting friendships.


Wholesale Banking Group is looking for interns who would join various teams within Wholesale in a unique experience with exposure to the business groups that make up a business-to-business company. The LPP SAP positions are located in San Francisco, CA, Minneapolis, MN and Charlotte, NC. Program would include the following with an emphasis on the student’s specific area of interest.

LPP SAP opportunities are available in the following areas:

Sales and Client Services Track
Typical assignments include: updating and analyzing prospect information stored in CRMs to identify sales opportunities; participate in client meetings to learn product and service capabilities and sales strategies; develop analytical skills by participating in data mining and customer analytics projects.

Project Management Track
Typical assignments include: developing an implementation strategy for a new application or sales tool; developing and implementing strategies for increasing cross sell activity; developing and implementing staffing models and resource management tools for projects; manage projects associated with identifying alternate product solutions.

Finance Track
Typical assignments include: Operational Workflow analysis, investment reporting, client service and competitive information, analysis of operational product pricing/profitability, quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting process, revenue allocation, settlement of trade activity, company valuations, research summaries, and special projects.

Technology Track
Typical assignments include: assisting with a variety of technology initiatives, assisting with the business requirements associated applications, designing and coding a software application, setting up internal website for project management and changing management tracking, reporting, etc.


  • Juniors graduating in May/June 2014
  • Advanced knowledge of working with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and team participation in college, extracurricular or work related environments
  • Strong oral and written communication/interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proven track record of taking initiative
  • Demonstrated creativity and flexibility
  • Track record for success academics and extracurricular activities
  • Strong interest in financial markets
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills


1st Round
  • 30 minutes
  • Location: on campus, by phone or in the office
  • Interview with one Team Member
  • Evaluated based on the qualifications set forth above
  • Notified of your status within 5 business days after 1st round interview

2nd Round
  • 30 minutes
  • Location: on site at Wells Fargo or by phone
  • Interviewed by Line of Business Manager
  • Evaluated on six areas: knowledge of accounting/finance concepts, sales/marketing ability, interpersonal skills, career focus, and knowledge of Wells Fargo
  • Notified of your status within 10 business days

Other Qualifications

In addition to the professional qualifications outlined above, we are specifically looking for interns who have the following background:

  • Energetic self-starter who is flexible, conscientious, proactive, and detail-oriented;
  • Ability to interact confidently and professionally with clients and managers;
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizes multiple tasks, and takes on new challenges; and
  • Ability to work as part of a highly dynamic and interdependent team.

Wells Fargo will not sponsor visas for these positions, and will not hire individuals whose work eligibility is based on their F-1 or other student visa status. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis.
