Current Undergraduates: Commercial and Corporate Lending Summer Analyst


The Corporate Lending relationship teams provide a broad selection of financial services to both mid-sized companies and large corporations. The groups partner with companies, financial institutions, governments, and not-for-profit entities with annual sales of $20 million to more than $5 billion. With a national platform, the groups deliver a full suite of Wells Fargo offerings including credit, treasury management, insurance and risk management, investment banking and capital markets products and expertise.


The Summer Analyst Program is approximately 10-12 weeks in length and is non-rotational. Offers are made for a specific office and lending group, based on candidate preference and business need. You may be placed in one of the following businesses:

Commercial Banking

Commercial Banking provides traditional bank financing, lending, and operating services to mid-sized or middle-market companies with annual revenues of $20 - $500 million, including manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, distributors, importers, and services companies. Specialized industry segments include:
  • Agriculture
  • Beverage
  • Environmental
  • Government
  • Healthcare
  • Higher Education
  • Non-profit
  • Technology

Corporate Banking
Corporate Banking focuses on US companies with annual revenues exceeding $500 million. Through a partnership between corporate bankers and Wells Fargo investment bankers, Corporate Banking provides integrated financial solutions and expertise that meet a client’s financing and operating needs. Specialized industry segments include:
  • Energy
  • Financial Institutions
  • Financial Sponsors
  • Gaming
  • Power and Utilities
  • Restaurant Finance
  • US Corporate Banking

Global Banking
Global Banking provides financial services to companies engaged in international commerce, including middle-market multinational companies, large corporations, and foreign-owned businesses.


The Summer Analyst Program is designed to provide undergraduate students with an in-depth understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of a full-time team member. Summer Analysts will gain exposure to Wells Fargo’s operations, business strategies, and corporate culture. You will receive a comprehensive professional and educational experience by working alongside team members who are experts in their fields. In addition, the program offers:
  • A curriculum plan centered on recommended online training in credit, products, systems, and compliance
  • A virtual speaker series led by Wells Fargo’s top leaders, where you can gain insight into how to make the most of your summer experience, and learn about, discuss, and ask questions on the current trends in the financial markets
  • Organized activities that promote community involvement and networking with other Summer Analysts and full-time Analysts across business lines
  • Guidance and mentorship from Regional Program Managers, many of whom are graduates of our credit training programs and have worked in various lines of business

Your Role

You will become an integral part of a team and have the opportunity to assume significant responsibility that may include:
  • Analyzing a company’s financial and operational strengths and weaknesses including leverage, key risk factors, sources of repayment, cash flow, and ability to service debt
  • Partnering with analysts and relationship managers in structuring multi-million dollar transactions, including the underwriting and execution of syndicated bank loans
  • Conducting financial and industry analyses to determine the viability of client relationships
  • Preparing underwriting memorandums and company annual reviews
  • Monitoring loan agreements for covenant compliance
  • Understanding client needs and identifying potential cross-sell opportunities for other Wells Fargo products and services

Full-Time Opportunity in the Financial Analyst Program

Credit Camp
Based on outstanding performance, summer analysts may receive an offer to join the Financial Analyst Program. This program lasts up to three years provides a strong foundation in credit analysis, and prepares you to understand and identify credit risks so that you can make informed lending decisions. Training for your new career begins at Wholesale University, our corporate training center located in San Francisco. Here, you will spend up to five weeks at Credit Camp, where you will gain in-depth knowledge of our underwriting framework, various credit-related topics, followed by extended training focusing on your specific business group.

Continuous Learning
After completing Credit Camp, you will return to your office as a full-time Analyst. Your learning will continue throughout your tenure in the Financial Analyst Program through ongoing training that teaches high-level aspects and/or functions of credit. Additional training includes:
  • A capstone program to reinforce credit concepts and provide intensive coaching to enhance business communication and presentation skills
  • Roundtable discussions with senior risk executives to gain valuable perspectives and insights on credit
  • Conferences sponsored by various Commercial and Corporate Lending businesses that provide continuing education in credit, sales and product training, career development, and networking opportunities
  • A virtual speaker series to gain access to senior executives, learn about the latest in the financial markets, and draw on the experiences of your peers

We’re Not Just Looking for Business Majors

The Summer Analyst Program hires non-business majors as well as those with a more traditional accounting, finance or business background. To this end, we offer pre-training coursework for non-business students that focus on fundamental financial accounting. Exposure to relevant accounting and financial concepts will be an integral step in beginning your career in Commercial and Corporate Lending.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in working effectively as an individual and as part of a team
  • Strong aptitude for numbers

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Professional experience through internships, part-time or full-time work, and/or extra-curricular activities in analyzing financial statements and assessing companies
  • Strong personal motivation and attention to detail
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment
