Current MBAs: Wealth, Brokerage & Retirement (WBR) Internships

Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement, a division of Wells Fargo & Company, is one of the leading wealth management, brokerage and retirement providers in the U.S. The group focuses on providing solutions that meet clients’ unique financial, investment and planning needs. Services include comprehensive planning and advice, investment management, brokerage, private banking, retirement, estate planning strategies, trust and insurance.

Program Details

Internship candidates ideally are currently enrolled in an MBA or other relevant degree program expecting to graduate in 2015, with an emphasis in related quantitative/analytical field from an accredited, leading business school or university.

This cohort based program includes hands-on training, exposure to key leaders, coaching, mentoring and regular performance feedback sessions. Learning is done in small groups, and development is highly personalized. We are looking for individuals to join this program in the summer of 2014.

Candidates should be prepared to:

  • Engage with leaders at all levels of the organization including senior management, individual contributors and center of influence, as well as highly affluent clients. Provide excellent client service, both internal and external
  • Be proactive in identifying business needs, opportunities and solve problems independently
  • Consistently learn new systems, applications, models, processes and techniques

Position Opportunities

Applicants will first apply for the Graduate Internship Program as described above, and will be asked for location and position preference if selected for a first round of interview. Internships for 2014 will include:

Specialized Wealth Services, Life Management Services Specialist – Minneapolis, MN
Life Management Services is a strategic business of WBR that assists Private Bank clients with maintaining independence as they age by providing premium wealth and life management support. The intern will be required to assist a local LMS Specialist in her day-to-day work; assist the national office in a national project that impacts the Life Management Services program; gain and utilize fiduciary skills; and generally work in support of Life Management Services in a local Wealth Management office. Preference is for a graduate student in course of study in social work (MSW) or gerontology with inclination toward or background in fiduciary work as well.

Option Strategy Group, Investment Analyst – Charlotte, NC
The Options Strategy Group develops and manages customized strategies for Wealth Management clients utilizing listed options. Responsibilities for this internship will include assisting in the development of investment models and systems enhancements to support ongoing product and strategy development.

Manager Research, Research Analyst – Charlotte, NC
Manager Research is charged with providing research, analysis and oversight of the long-only recommended and supported line up of Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs), mutual funds, and Exchange Traded Products (ETPs). Responsibilities include the evaluation, recommendation, analysis, and monitoring of separately managed accounts, mutual funds, ETP's, and offshore funds and real estate through implementation of a disciplined due diligence process.

Investment Management Solutions, Research Analyst – San Francisco
The IM Solutions team reports through the Chief Investment Officer, and is responsible for the development, enhancement and maintenance of the investment solutions used by IFS clients. We design, develop and implement the fiduciary products on the bank platform for use with high net-worth and ultra-high net-worth clients. The team manages both third party and proprietary investment products working with external and internal money managers. The intern will gather data and perform analysis to create a database that establishes our competitive positioning and identifies potential products, tools and business process improvement opportunities.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years providing service to clients
  • 3+ years in each of the following: perform historical and/or analytical research; solve problems and recommend possible solutions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated interest in investment management, asset management, financial markets and securities analysis or related fields
  • Relevant experience working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proven organization skills, including demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, and demonstrated ability to effectively manage details
  • Willingness to work within the firm’s demanding and highly focused environment
  • Ability to demonstrate a sense of personal accountability and success for achieving results tied to specific goals
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, processes and techniques

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed graduate finance coursework and/or have work experience in financial accounting, finance, asset management, capital markets, and/or macroeconomics, social work or law
  • Bachelors degree in Finance, Economics or Business Administration
  • Proven ability to articulate ideas, strategies, and solutions clearly, orally, in writing, and through presentation skills
  • Passed CFA Level I, II and/or III
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in workplace or community setting
