In 2013, 55,600 team members recorded more than 1.69 million volunteer hours in our My Volunteer Time tracking tool, a 13% increase from 2012. Our team members give their time to thousands of nonprofits, helping to promote a cleaner environment, teaching financial education classes, building homes through Habitat for Humanity, and more.
These community-involvement networks support team member-led volunteer initiatives. Organized in local markets, Volunteer Chapters give team members the opportunity to create “volunteer communities” that make a positive impact on in their local communities and they align perfectly with our Vision and Values.
Since 1999, thousands of team members have participated in Reading First, Wells Fargo’s interactive read-aloud program designed to support early childhood literacy and increase company volunteerism. Through the program, more than one million books have been read and donated to prekindergarten through second grade classroom libraries.
More than 5,000 team members company-wide are serving on nonprofit boards. This is one more way that we stay connected with our communities and continue to have dialog with them about the needs they’re facing.
Supporting Team Members
Wells Fargo promotes team member volunteerism through the following programs:
- Volunteer Service Awards – Wells Fargo annually awards, through our Volunteer Service Awards program, more than $500,000 in grants to nonprofits and schools where our team members volunteer. Since 1978, Volunteer Service Awards have encouraged our team member volunteers and provided valuable support for nonprofits in communities around the world.
- Volunteer Leave Program – Since 1976, annually the Volunteer Leave Program has been providing selected team members with full pay and benefits—from three days to four months—while they volunteer on projects of significant impact at a nonprofit or school of their choice. We provide this support because we recognize the value of our team member volunteers in helping solve social problems and in contributing to the long-term sustainability of the nonprofits where they work.
- Community Service Paid Time Off (PTO) – To support our team members’ volunteer work in their communities, Wells Fargo provides eligible team members with 16 hours per year of PTO for community service work.
