Avid ModjtabaiAvid Modjtabai is responsible for the Consumer Lending Group (CLG), which includes Auto Finance, Dealer Services, Education Financial Services, Home Mortgage and Home Equity, Personal Lines and Loans, Retail Services, Consumer Credit Card, and Rewards and Enhancements Services. She leads more than 70,000 team members who serve more than 33 million households, helping consumers with their borrowing needs—from everyday goods and services to major purchases to achieving and sustaining homeownership. In addition to serving consumers directly, CLG offers integrated financial services solutions designed for the dealer community, including auto financing, real estate and floor plan financing, and an array of commercial banking services.

A 20-year veteran of Wells Fargo, Modjtabai has served in a number of leadership roles. Prior to leading CLG she was the head of the Technology and Operations Group and Chief Information Officer. In this role, she led the customer conversion activities, and the systems and infrastructure integration for the Wells Fargo – Wachovia merger. As CIO she was responsible for the core technology functions of the company including computing, data centers, connectivity and voice and data networks, end-user services, enterprise architecture, application development, information security, and technology governance. She also led Operations, including check processing, statement processing, ATM operations, ACH and wires, fraud disputes, cash vaults, lockbox, safe-deposit processing, armored logistics, accounting support for retail stores, and deposit document retention.

Modjtabai has also served as Director of Human Resources where she was responsible for developing and implementing people strategies to support Wells Fargo’s business objectives. This included talent management, management of compensation and benefits, HR service centers, HR systems and payroll, team member experience, team member relations and assistance, learning and development, and diversity. During that time she also developed and led an enterprise-wide customer loyalty and team member engagement initiative with the focus of delivering an outstanding customer experience across Wells Fargo.

Prior to her role in HR, Modjtabai was Executive Vice President and head of the Internet Services Group, where she helped Wells Fargo become the leading provider of online financial services. Her early roles at the company included management positions in Consumer Deposits and the Investment Group, following work at McKinsey & Company, where she focused on strategy initiatives in financial services.

Modjtabai has been named as one of the “Most Powerful Women in Banking” as well as one of the “Top 25 Women to Watch” by U.S. Banker and by American Banker. The San Francisco Business Times named her one of the “100 Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business” and Bank Technology News recognized her as one of “The Innovators.” Additionally, she received the “Ellis Island Medal of Honor,” awarded for her outstanding personal and professional achievements, coupled with preserving the richness of her heritage.

As an active member of the community, she serves on the board of trustees for The Branson School and is an advisory member of the Columbia Business School Social Enterprise Program and Stanford Center on Longevity.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University and an MBA in finance from Columbia University.
