Investment Management Development MBA Program


The Wealth Management division focuses on providing solutions that meet clients’ unique financial needs. Services include comprehensive wealth planning/advice, investment management, brokerage, private banking, retirement, fiduciary and insurance.

The Investment Management Development Program is dedicated to growing investment professionals with sales and relationship skills who seek to broaden their investment knowledge within a dynamic financial services environment. Over the course of 24 months, participants increase their investment acumen, hone their professional presence, learn how to identify and pursue new business opportunities and ultimately begin to manage investment accounts, before transitioning to the role of an Investment Strategist.

Program Details

This elite cohort-based program to train and develop Investment Management Professionals includes coaching, mentoring, regular performance feedback sessions, exposure to key leaders, and communication and sales training. Learning is done in small groups and development is highly personalized.


As a part of the Investment Management Development Program, team members will be working as Investment Professionals mentoring under a Senior Investment Strategist with the goal of transitioning into the Investment Strategist role by the end of the two year program. An Investment Strategist strives to build a tailored allocation strategy for their clients utilizing a disciplined, goals-based approach and a broad array of investment solutions that evolve based on changing market conditions, portfolio risks, and their client’s circumstances. Program participants will job shadow an Investment Strategist and will learn the investment tools, investment philosophy and process and how the team concept operates. They will also partner with the team of Wealth Advisors, Private Bankers, Fiduciary Specialists, Financial Advisors, and Wealth Planners to deliver “full-balance sheet” solutions for our clients. Participants will conduct all aspects of portfolio management functions by hands-on learning activities ranging from researching and understanding all assets (financial and non-financial), investment discovery and planning, participating in client meetings and presenting investment solutions to the client, teaming with internal partners and communicating with clients and prospects. These team members will develop strong investment product knowledge and utilize relationship management skills to meet the financial needs of clients.

Candidates should also be prepared to:

  • Engage with leaders at all levels of the organization including senior management, individual contributors and centers of influence, as well as highly affluent clients
  • Learn about the Wealth Management’s sales process by participating in sales-generating activities, ultimately becoming responsible for their own client sales goal
  • Provide excellent client service, both internal and external 
  • Be proactive in identifying business needs, opportunities and solve problems independently 
  • Build solid investment asset acumen and market knowledge
  • Consistently learn new systems, applications, models, processes and techniques 


Basic Qualifications:

  • 1+ years work experience in financial accounting, finance, asset management, capital markets and/or macroeconomics or a minimum of a MBA or equivalent graduate degree program 
  • 2+ years of customer service experience 
  • 2+ years in financial analysis, problem solving and presenting possible solutions to others 
  • Persons in this position must meet the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau loan originator qualification requirements and must comply with Wells Fargo policies related to these requirements. The loan originator qualification requirements include meeting applicable financial responsibility, character, credit fitness and criminal background standards. Successful candidates must also meet ongoing regulatory requirements including additional screening

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated interest in investment management, asset management, financial markets and securities analysis or related fields
  • Experience working collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proven organization skills, including demonstrated experience managing multiple projects and deadlines, and demonstrated ability to effectively manage details
  • Willingness to work within the firm’s demanding and highly focused environment
  • Demonstrated sense of personal accountability and success for achieving results tied to specific goals
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems, processes and techniques
  • Ability to travel 

Preferred Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Business Administration
  • Previous experience in sales environment, including sourcing and closing leads 
  • Proven ability to articulate ideas, strategies, and solutions clearly, orally, in writing, and through presentation skills 
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in workplace or community setting 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage behavior during extreme shifts in business and in capital markets 
  • Passed CFA Level I, II and/or III

Wealth, Brokerage & Retirement Internship Program

Program description

The Wells Fargo Wealth, Brokerage and Retirement (WBR) Internship Program is ideal for enrolled MBA candidates interested in working in a collaborative environment focused on providing exceptional client service. Over the course of 10 weeks you will:

  • Engage with leaders at all levels of the organization including senior management, individual contributors and highly affluent clients
  • Be proactive in identifying business needs, opportunities and solve problems independently
  • Consistently learn new systems, applications, models, processes, and techniques
  • Receive hands-on training with exposure to coaching, mentoring, and regular performance feedback sessions
  • Participate in a highly personalized development atmosphere where learning is done in small groups
